There’s a long history of filmmakers and their stars forming romantic relationships. Sometimes, these romances burn out quickly. Other times, they end in marriage—unions that last and those that don't. Occasionally these hookups are torrid and illicit events that shock fans to their core.
Here are some of the most notable director-actress romances that sprung after they worked together.
1. Kate Beckinsale and Len Wisemen
Things really worked out for them when they worked together for Underworld in 2003. The film was a hit and birthed a popular franchise. More importantly, though, Beckinsale and Wiseman started dating and married in 2004. They divorced in 2016.
2. Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw
Capshaw hit the jackpot when she landed a part in Spielberg’s monster hit Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. She hit the jackpot again when she and Spielberg got together. They’ve been married since 1991 and maintain one of the most successful unions in Hollywood.
3. Rupert Sanders and Kristen Stewart
This photo of the pair at a screening of their film Snow White and the Huntsman isn’t what got people talking.
No, that would be the photos of the duo kissing in 2012 while he was married and she was dating Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson. Yeah, it was super salacious and scandalous.
He later got divorced, while she and Pattinson parted ways.
4. James Cameron and Linda Hamilton
The couple first worked together on The Terminator, but their courtship didn’t start until the 1991 sequel. They tied the knot in 1997, but divorced two years later.
5. Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich
They met while making Resident Evil in 2002, got married in 2009 and are still married to this day in the ultimate Hollywood happy ending.
6. Luc Besson and Milla Jovovich
Before Anderson, she married her Fifth Element director Luc Besson in 1997. They divorced two years later.
7. Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter
It somehow just seems right that these two eccentric personalities would get together, doesn’t it? They met while shooting Planet of the Apes in 2001 and eventually had two kids together during a thirteen-year union that ended in 2014.
8. Robert Rodriguez and Rose McGowan
The pair initially became an item while making 2007’s Planet Terror and remained on again-off again until calling it quits for good in 2009.
